Let's set the record straight right now. Regardless of what rumors you might have heard, there is no point at which car owners in Japan must change their engines or junk their cars. Used engines from Japan are available because of several unique factors. The climate in Japan causes cars to rust out in very short order, usually no more than 7-10 years. The Japanese Car Inspection (JCI), or sha-ken as they call it in Japan, is a very rigorous bi-annual inspection of nearly 50 systems and components on the vehicle. Once a vehicle begins to have serious rust, it cannot pass the JCI, and the vehicle is scrapped. The average Japanese drives his car much less than the average American. Some estimates claim about 50 percent less. Read our blog for more info on the mileage story.
Our engines are sold as a "long block" assembly. That means it includes the block, head, and all the parts inside. You will use the manifolds, fuel system, ignition system, etc. from your old engine. All of the external components on a motor from Japan are different from those in the U.S., so we remove them to make your installation easier. Read our blog for more info on engine types.
Yes. All of the replacement engines we sell are legal for use in all 50 states. We work closely with the California Air Resources board to keep our air clean. We maintain a massive database of information to prove that our engines are functionally identical to those originally sold in the U.S.
No. We get a huge discount because of our volume, so we can ship to all of the country for a lot less than you might think. We will be glad to quote a price on freight when we quote your request. Take a look at our shipping info page to get an idea of freight costs to your state.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. We also accept money orders and cashiers checks. In order to get the discount on freight, we can't ship C.O.D.
Most of what we sell (except for high performance and a few other limited applications) have a limited warranty. The warranty is for 180 calendar days from the date of purchase with unlimited mileage. The warranty covers parts only. No claims for labor, shipping or other incidental charges will be considered. Warranty is void if the unit is overheated, run out of oil, or similarly abused. The defective unit must be returned before any warranty claim can be considered. Some other conditions and limitations apply. For a full copy of our limited warranty, go to our literature page and download a copy.
